The “Governors Cup” will continue to be a Kentucky football tradition for at least a few more years.

According to Steve Jones of the Courier-Journal, Louisville and Kentucky have reached a contract agreement to continue playing each other yearly until 2022.

A previous agreement was reached in 2014 and was set to run through 2019, until it was amended. Now, the three-year extension adds more life to the rivalry.

It has been an entertaining series to watch over the past few seasons. Kentucky leads the competitive all-time series 15-14.

Unlike some neutral site rivalry games, these teams will rotate at each’s home stadium year after year. Louisville plays their home games at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, while Kentucky hosts at Kroger Field.

Last season, the Wildcats kicked the game-winner with under 30 seconds to play, giving Kentucky a 41-38 win. It should be another good game in 2017 with Kentucky on the rise and 2016 Heisman winner Lamar Jackson returning to Louisville. Kroger Field will be rocking with fans of both parties on Nov. 25.
