Kentucky has had success looking to the NFL for its assistant hires, and now a report suggests Mark Stoops will go to that well one more time.

Kentucky has zeroed in on second-year San Francisco 49ers assistant offensive line coach Zach Yenser to replace Eric Wolford in Lexington, who joined the Alabama staff. And it will be a homecoming of sorts. Barring a last-minute change, Yenser is expected to be named the new offensive line coach at Kentucky, sources told Kentucky Sports Radio Matt Jones.

Yenser joined San Francisco after he spent 3 of the previous 4 seasons (2015-17) as the run game coordinator/offensive line coach at Kansas. Yenser spent the 2018 season as an offensive quality control coach at SMU. Before Kansas, Yenser spent 2 seasons (2013-14) as the offensive line coach at California.

A native of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, Yenser was a four-year starter as an offensive lineman at Troy (2003-06). He appeared in 42 consecutive games during his career as he helped the Trojans win the Sun Belt Conference and the New Orleans Bowl as a senior in 2006 when he was a team captain and First-Team All-Sun Belt selection, according to his 49ers bio.

Before he got to Cal, Yenser spent 3 seasons at Louisiana Tech University, first as a graduate assistant working with the offensive line (2010-11), followed by one season (2012) as the team’s assistant offensive line coach.

In 2009, Yenser was an assistant coach at Colquitt County (GA) High, where he helped guide the Packers to an 11-3 record and an appearance in the Georgia 5A state semifinals. The year prior, he was as an offensive line coach at Henderson State University.

Yenser began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Troy University in 2007, and worked with the offensive line and special teams.
