Losers of four straight with three games left, the 2015 college football season is starting to feel an awful lot like most others in Lexington.

The good news is that Kentucky’s remaining opponents are a combined 10-17, so the Wildcats (4-5) aren’t out of bowl contention just yet.

First, Kentucky will have to beat Vanderbilt (3-6) on the road. To do that, here are five Wildcats who have to play well:

1. QB Patrick Towles: With six interceptions to one touchdown during the four-game losing streak, the junior quarterback isn’t playing like a guy fighting to keep his job. Freshman QB Drew Barker waits eagerly on the sidelines as Towles better get it together and fast.

When asked about his quarterback situation on Kentucky’s weekly radio show head coach Mark Stoops said, “Whoever gives us the best chance to go into Vandy and give a chance to win will play.” Not exactly wholehearted support from the clearly frustrated head coach.

2. WR Dorian Baker: In the few drives Barker has directed, he’s 8-for-11 for 47 yards and an INT, with those eight completions going to seven different receivers. If he does see the field Saturday, he’ll need to build rapport with his pass catchers on the fly.

Baker leads the team in receptions (45) and receiving touchdowns (3) but hasn’t done much lately with 8 receptions for 74 yards in his past two games. Maybe he and Towles can help one another get back on track Saturday, or, he can be a key contributor to Barker’s first win under center.

3. RB Stanley “Boom” Williams: Williams is set to return after injuring his elbow against Tennessee, and boy could the Wildcats use him. The team rushed for just 79 yards in Athens last week.

Vandy held Florida to just 93 yards on 34 carries (2.7 yards per carry average), so Kentucky obviously will need Williams to mount any resemblance of a rushing game.

4. LB Josh Forrest: After Vandy RB Ralph Webb’s monster game against Florida, 118 rushing yards on 22 carries, including a 74-yard TD run, the Kentucky D better come prepared to stop the run because let’s face it: They aren’t as strong a run defense as the Gators.

Forrest, the Wildcats’ leading tackler, finished with 10 tackles against Georgia last week, his first double-digit tackle game since Oct. 3. Hopefully he can keep it going against Vanderbilt.

5. S Marcus McWilson: McWilson had one of Kentucky’s three interceptions in last year’s 17-7 victory over Vandy. The Wildcats forced four turnovers in that game.

Kentucky will need a similar effort to save its season from complete disaster.

When Vanderbilt QB Johnny McCrary throws an interception, he tends to throw multiple. He has thrown 12 in the five games, zero in the other four.

Vandy is 2-2 when McCrary doesn’t throw an interception, 1-4 when he does.
