There’s plenty riding on this week’s Missouri-Kentucky game, and one of them is the new Kentucky offense with coordinator Liam Coen, who is in his first year.

One of the low points for Kentucky last year was a dismal offensive showing at Mizzou, and that is believed to be one reason why the Wildcats went in a different direction on offense this year. Because it’s the first SEC game for both teams, offseason scouting comes into play more than ever.

“They’ve got to have some things ready for us, right,” Coen said at a press conference this week. “They’ve had a lot of time to prepare as we have for them. And I got to believe they’re going to have some things ready to go, some unscouted looks that we need to be ready for, and adjust.”

Coen said that in-game adjustments are a way of life, and it was also the case last week against Louisiana-Monroe.

“We had an idea of what they were going to do,” he said, “but we needed to prepare for some unscouted looks, and have some adjustments ready to go. Speaking of, the post to (Josh) Ali that was not in our game plan. That came from up top that saw something on the previous drive.”
