Lynn Bowden Jr. continues to break barriers in Lexington.

Kentucky’s All-SEC, and likely soon to be All-American, was just named the winner of the 2019 Paul Hornung Award. Bowden is the first player in school history to win the award.

If you are unfamiliar with the award, it is given out annually to the nation’s most versatile player.

Bowden is set to be honored on March 4, 2020, at the award’s annual dinner, to be held at the Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky. Nicknamed The Golden Boy, Hornung was a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback at Notre Dame in 1956 and the NFL’s Most Valuable Player with the Green Bay Packers whose versatility earned him enshrinement in both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame.

Bowden led the SEC in all-purpose yards this season with an average of 153 yards per game. This total does not include Bowden’s passing production. Following injuries to several Kentucky quarterbacks, Bowden transitioned from his role as the team’s best receiver to starting quarterback. As daunting as a challenge as that may seem, Bowden responded by leading the Wildcats to a 5-2 record after taking over the starting QB duties in Lexington.

Bowden ranks fifth on UK’s career all-purpose yardage list at 4,407 yards. He currently has 1,297 career rushing yards, 1,303 receiving yards, 1,608 kick return yards and 199 punt return yards. He also has passed for 422 yards and two touchdowns.
