Kentucky QB Terry Wilson has had an up-and-down season, but Saturday’s game at Tennessee was definitely a low point.

In the Wildcats’ 24-7 loss, Wilson completed 21 of 34 passes for 174 yards, one touchdown and one interception — decent numbers, but not what the team needed in order to win on the road.

On Monday, coach Mark Stoops discussed his quarterback’s play, saying there’s room for improvement, but adding that he’s seen some positives as well (via 247Sports):

“There was a couple in that game, when we watch it and see, that it would’ve been 50-50 on a pull or not to pull,” he said. “He’s not been perfect on all his reads, even on where to go with the football, but he’s doing some good things. It’s not all on him. Again, that’s one of those games where it is aggravating to everybody because when we had guys open the protection wasn’t there. When we had protection, we didn’t get guys open or complete it. There were a few where he’s going to the wrong side. But there’s a lot of moving pieces and he has to see all that. He is getting better. But the decision making has been good. He’s doing some good things. We have to play well around him. Again, we need to be very precise. The complete game changers, we don’t have a lot of them on offense. We’ve gotta make sure that we execute and we’re very efficient in what we do.”

Wilson has a couple of weeks to get right, though, as the Wildcats end the regular season against Middle Tennessee and at Louisville, a team that just fired its coach.

Will Wilson still be the starter by the time the bowl game rolls around? He’ll have to show some improvement over the next two weeks, probably, for that to be the case.
