It was pretty weird to see Jalen Hurd transfer from Tennessee to become a receiver at Baylor but at least he stayed on the same side of the ball — and in the same sport.

The same can not be said for Ahmad Wagner. The former Iowa basketball player has announced he will transfer to Kentucky. However, he doesn’t plan to play for John Calipari. No, the former Hawkeye plans to play for Mark Stoops’ squad next season.

Here is his official announcement:

And it appears Wagner may have two years to play at Kentucky, despite the fact he saw action in three full seasons for Iowa. According to the NCAA’s transfer terms, players have five seasons to compete in two sports if they chose. If he’s a graduate transfer, he should be eligible to play immediately.

Division I five-year clock: If you play at a Division I school, you have five-calendar years in which to play four seasons of competition. Your five-year clock starts when you enroll as a full-time student at any college. Thereafter, your clock continues, even if you spend an academic year in residence as a result of transferring; decide to redshirt, if you do not attend school or even if you go part-time during your college career.

The 6-foot-7 Wagner is expected to compete as a receiver according to Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio. Sounds like the perfect red zone target in the Wildcat offense.
