Thank you for your service, Mark Stoops.

Kentucky fans are quite happy with their head coach despite the Wildcats’ painful fourth quarter loss to Florida on Saturday.

After leading 27-14 in the final stanza, the Wildcats allowed the Gators to come back and win 28-27.

Still, just to be that close to a win was enough for some fans, because as caller “Wesley” pointed out during Stoops’ radio call-in show on Monday, that’s all ‘Cats fans ever asked for — to compete.

“I just want to tell coach [Stoops] thank you,” Wesley said. “As Kentucky fans, all we ever asked for is to compete in football in the SEC. And for the first time in 31 years on Saturday, we got to watch the Kentucky Wildcats have a double digit lead for four quarters.”

At this point, Wesley begins to break down.

“You know, that’s all we ever asked,” he said. “These Kentucky fans talk about ‘Fire Mark Stoops’ … No. This is what we asked for, to compete.”

“Believe me, your support is heartfelt,” Stoops replied.
