What Mark Stoops said after Kentucky's loss at Missouri
Kentucky struggled across the board in a 20-10 loss to Missouri on Saturday, but especially on offense where the Wildcats used two quarterbacks, Terry Wilson and Joey Gatewood
Coach Mark Stoops said he didn’t know of a plan next week against Georgia in terms of who would start at quarterback. But the Wildcats were 2-for-10 on third down, and Missouri outgained the Wildcats 421 to 145, while the Tigers also had a big edge in time of possession, 43:10 to 16:50.
Kentucky offensive line coach John Schlarman, who was diagnosed with cancer about two years ago, did not make the trip.
Here’s what Stoops shared with the media after the game:
Kentucky coach Mark Stoops:
“They just kicked the tail out of us from the beginning to the end.”

Why was Joey Gatewood in on Kentucky’s final offensive drive?
Stoops: “Just reps.”
What’s the plan going into next week?
“Not sure.”

“We need to respond and play great for him and we didn’t do that today.” Stoops on not having Coach Schlarman present in the locker room or on the sideline.

Mark Stoops on whether the absence of offensive line coach John Schlarman, who is battling cancer: “I’m sure it did, but in that situation you have to be able to respond. . . . John gives us so much more than any normal human being can.” #bbn #ukfootball

Mark Stoops: “It’s hard to put into words because It’s been a long time since we’ve had a game like that. They beat us in every phase.” #bbn #ukfootball

On lack of carries for Rodriguez and Rose today (14 combined), Stoops said that’s a correct assessment. They averaged 5.3 and 8.6 yards per carry, respectively.

Defense needed to get themselves off the field today, Stoops said. Not all the offense’s fault. “We were getting mushed, pushed around from the beginning of the game… That’s normally what we like to do.”

We are so bad to have lost to UK.
Yes the vols are terrible it was ugly game for my cats today but if had to choose I take loss today for the win we had last week against the vols especially in that fashion.kinda how cats got beat today.but you can’t win big game like last week and let that celebration carry all week till next game.I just hope they have better showing against Georgia then Tennessee did today.I don’t know what stoops got against gatewood but he needs be playing he only chance for offense to have chance
Hey easy, what’s you take on TW right now? I like him and I think he’s got talent but he just has shown the improvement he needs to given his time and experience in the system. I’m not for completely benching TW, but Stoops and Gran need to have some serious discussions on the QB position. As I said in another post, the issue might not be with Gran and Stoops or the QBs but rather with Hinshaw.
Let’s Remember every Big Time W has been followed with a Big Game Dud that’s the one consistency in the Stoops coaching era , for it showed up again today!
My thoughts are it’s time to get more Young WR’s Some game experience especially ones we’ve been told that has great talent . I think hard nosed Gran needs to open up the playbook cause it’s tough to win with just the same 3 – 4 plays that always gets called !
Stoops is overrated. This team catches bottom feeders in the conference at their worst. Guarantano played the worst game of his career against UK. If he played like he did today and TN played UK then TN would have won. Can’t wait to see what great offensive scheme OC Eddie comes up with against UGA!!
About Guarantano, you say “if he played like” when you mean to say “not unusual to see him change from week to week” and i mean not always for the better.
Yes wolfman you could say that. I have seen Guarantano light it up and play some great games, but I fear he has regressed as this is his senior year. Coach Drinkwitz had a great gameplan and Mizzou played lights out. Mizzou should have scored at least 1 or 2 more Tds on the Cats.
Maybe we should look to hire Hal Mumme as Offensive Coordinator.
