LSU is set to have several new faces on its coaching staff in 2021 as coach Ed Orgeron has parted ways with multiple assistants. The latest is passing game coordinator Scott Linehan, who is expected to leave after one season.

The 57-year-old Linehan is due the full remainder of his two-year, $800,000 per year contract, a buyout that is about $1 million, The Advocate reported. The defensive staff has already had an overhaul, as LSU parted ways with defensive coordinator Bo Pelini and safeties coach Bill Busch, and defensive line coach Bill Johnson is expected to retire.

LSU’s offense was inconsistent during the 5-5 season as the Tigers tried to develop freshmen quarterbacks T.J. Finley and Max Johnson once starter Myles Brennan suffered what turned out to be a season-ending injury against Missouri.

Offensive production waned down the stretch until the wins over Florida and Ole Miss. The Tigers scored just 25.1 points per game the remainder of the season, which included a disappointing four-game stretch against Auburn, Arkansas, Texas A&M and Alabama in which LSU averaged 13 points per game.

LSU finished the season ranked 102nd nationally in third down conversions (34.62 percent) and a 52.9 percent touchdown conversion rate in the red zone that ranked 104th nationally and was a substantial drop from the conversion rate in 2019 (78.6 percent).
