It appears Bo Pelini will be making his return to Baton Rouge.

The Youngstown State head coach has reportedly been offered the defensive coordinator position with Ed Orgeron’s LSU program and is expected to accept the role according to Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated and Brett McMurphy of Stadium.

Dellenger is also reporting that Pelini will make “around $2 million” annually to lead LSU’s defense. The defending national champions have an opening at defensive coordinator after Dave Aranda left the program to take over the head coaching duties at Baylor.

Pelini previously served as LSU defensive coordinator from 2005 to 2007 before taking over as Nebraska’s head coach from 2008 until 2014. During his tenure with the Tigers, LSU won the 2007 national title. Following his departure from Nebraska, Pelini has been serving as Youngstown State’s head coach.

Back in 2005, with Pelini running the LSU defense and Jimbo Fisher running the program’s offense, the Tigers went 11-2. LSU again went 11-2 in 2006 with both coordinators working under Les Miles and followed that up with a 12-2 record in Pelini’s third and final season in Baton Rouge during the team’s run to the national title in 2007.

Pelini has a career head coaching record of 100-55 and was 67-27 at Nebraska. Following his departure from Lincoln, the Nebraska program has yet to recover following several coaching hires.
