Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Joe Burrow is gone, as is top running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, top wide receiver Justin Jefferson and more. Another strong wide receiver, Ja’Marr Chase, opted out of the 2020 season and declared for the 2021 NFL draft.

And yet, the experts still don’t believe LSU could lose its 2020 season opener against Mississippi State.

Earlier this week, CBS Sports’ “Inside College Football” crew made their predictions for Saturday’s game between the Tigers and Bulldogs, and all four picked LSU. The picks were made by Bryan Jones, Rick Neuheisel, Aaron Taylor and Randy Cross.

It may be Mississippi State’s first game under new head coach Mike Leach, but none of the analysts believe the Bulldogs will start this new era with a win.

“His football team’s he bringing with him has got one hell of a challenge on their hands with LSU,” Cross said on the broadcast. “I think [LSU quarterback] Myles Brennan gets off to a great start to the 2020 season.”

Brennan, a redshirt junior, is taking over the starting quarterback job for the Tigers after getting just small tastes of playing time the past three seasons. He’ll now have the opportunity to lead the offense, and it appears the CBS Sports crew has faith in him to do well, at least in the opener against Mississippi State.

The Tigers and Bulldogs are set to kick off Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
