It didn’t take long for the mood in Baton Rouge to shift dramatically over the last several weeks. While many have been projecting a rough season for LSU in 2018, some of those fears have subsided following the spring addition of Ohio State graduate transfer quarterback Joe Burrow.

LSU proudly confirmed Burrow’s official addition to the program on Monday following a quick recruitment for the former Buckeye signal caller. Burrow is eligible immediately and has two years to play at LSU. The addition of Burrow adds another talented arm to the QB room in Baton Rouge and projects to give the Tigers a player with three years of experience in Urban Meyer’s offensive system.

In reality, however, Burrow doesn’t have any meaningful experience over the Tigers’ sophomore QB Myles Brennan. Both players were touted high school prospects, both have served as backups and both have seen limited action in the regular season.

The comparisons between the two is something Brennan’s father, Owen Brennan, noted when recently speaking to Patrick Ochs of the Sun Herald. Despite the addition of Burrow, the elder Brennan still believes at this point that his son will be given every opportunity to take the field for the Tigers in the season opener against Miami in Arlington.

“Here’s what I think: I think Joe Burrow has three years and 15 pounds on Myles. That’s it,” Owen Brennan said. “I don’t think he has a huge upper hand.”

He followed up those comments by stating his belief that LSU is wise enough to play the best player when the time comes to make a final decision.

“They’re going to play the best quarterback,” he said.

While Brennan’s father’s comments aren’t likely to be very popular in Baton Rouge right now, they are likely more accurate than the jubilation caused by the addition of Burrow to the team’s roster. While many hope the graduate transfer market brings their program the next Russell Wilson, the history of hailed graduate transfer QBs fall mostly flat. Just ask Malik Zaire, Grayson Lambert, Jacob Coker or Trevor Knight.
