LSU went into Oxford and won in dominant fashion Saturday night, winning by a 40-24 margin that wasn’t nearly as close as the final score indicates. The Tigers have now won three consecutive games after dropping the Troy game in Death Valley on Sept. 30.

For LSU coach Ed Orgeron, this game had to feel extra special considering his past history in Oxford. Of course, Orgeron was fired by Ole Miss after three seasons as head coach. Coach O had a 10-25 record during those three seasons.

Thanks to the efforts of his star running back Derrius Guice, Coach O got his own brand of revenge against the Rebels. The junior running back rushed for 276 yards against the Rebels — making him the first player in SEC history to rush for at least 250 yards in a single game three times.

Here’s a sampling of what Coach O had to say immediately following the game:

On Arden Key returning to form:

“You know, we need him. We will look at the film but he had some pressure and he had a couple sacks. He’s just getting into playing shape right now.”

Thoughts on Derrius Guice:

“Tremendous job by Derrius and Darrel of being physical.”

“(Guice) is finally healthy. We felt like we could run the football on them, he’s finally healthy. We challenged our team — we need to run the football. This is a team that can score at any time. We needed to play confident controlled football and we did.”

Any idea that he was close to 300 yards rushing?

“No. I was so excited for him, Derrius is not a stat guy, we just wanted to win. He came out with the eye of the Tiger tonight and was ready to play.”

On winning in Oxford. Is this one of your best memories of Oxford?

“I just can’t wait to get on that plane, I’m glad I’m an LSU Tiger. Whatever happened in the past, like I said, we are fortunate to have a SEC job. This was just another SEC game for us and I’m glad we won.”

On the upcoming bye week:

“We got in a hole but we understand who we are now. We have to play with passion, we have to play with energy and work hard to get the things we want, it just doesn’t happen. These guys have a much-needed off week. We are going to take it easy next week, we will practice a couple of days, we will get them rested and finish off the season.”

“Our team is tired. I knew they were tired Tuesday or Wednesday at practice, although they was trying as hard as they could. We backed off a bit Wednesday, we need to give them a rest. We got a huge challenge ahead of us.”

Eyes toward Alabama game in two weeks, do you want the players not thinking about that just yet?

“No, we talked about it (in the locker room). LSU-Alabama, don’t get any bigger than that. We will worry about that when we come back from break next Sunday. We will have one Alabama practice on a Wednesday, get our guys rested. I know it’s a game they will be up for, we all know it’s a big challenge but they will be up and ready to go.”
