LSU coach Ed Orgeron and his Tigers open their defense of the national championship this week against Mississippi State in the marquee “SEC on CBS” afternoon game.

With a new staff to prepare for, Orgeron said it’s a challenge to get ready for Leach and his top assistants, since they come from more than one school from last season. Then add in the Bulldogs personnel blended with that.

“First of all you got to study his stuff a little every coach has some variations in all different formations of what he likes to do what he likes to call kind of sort of his DNA but you know we’ve been watching a lot of Washington State Film obviously but then you got to watch Mississippi State filter personnel so it kind of gets confusing for the kids, you know, watch in Washington State play Mississippi State,” Orgeron said on the SEC coaches media teleconference on Wednesday. “That’s part of the first game then you got to watch San Diego State defense. That’s no play in Mississippi State personnel so you got to make some much, just like any first game, they’ll be adjustments.”

Orgeron also added that he didn’t think there would be a rash of injuries, like the NFL, because of the way the preseason was structured in his mind. The LSU coach added that Racey McMath is one of the best special teams players in the SEC, and Orgeron wants him to be one of the best wide receivers.
