LSU coach Ed Orgeron met with the media Tuesday night and offered up some good info on his team heading into the season opener against BYU in Houston. He named Danny Etling the team’s starting quarterback and announced the reason behind the team’s best offensive player, Derrius Guice, missing recent practices was due to a minor injury.

While those updates were good news for LSU fans, the word on the team’s best defender wasn’t as good. After missing the entire spring and the majority of fall camp, Arden Key remains missing in action for the Tigers.

Here’s what Orgeron had to say regarding Key during his opening statements.

“There’s no word yet on Arden Key, he’s not cleared to go yet,” Orgeron revealed. “We don’t know when he’s going to be cleared. He did go see his doctor but he’s not ready to practice yet. It’s still unknown when he’s going to play.”

With the BYU game coming in 10 days, it appears very doubtful Key will suit for that game — something Orgeron has all but admitted already. Considering he’s still not cleared to practice, it may be awhile before LSU gets its leading returning sack artist back in the lineup.
