If you missed the news, LSU will be without the services of Greedy Williams for the team’s Fiesta Bowl appearance against UCF. Williams isn’t injured but has already declared for the 2019 NFL Draft and has decided to sit out LSU’s bowl game.

While his head coach understands the decision, that doesn’t mean he’s a fan of it, either.

During Tuesday’s Fiesta Bowl press conference, Ed Orgeron was asked about Williams’ decision to sit out the upcoming game. The Tigers are set to play UCF in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1.

“Here’s what I’ll say. I’m old-fashioned. I think the team comes first but I understand,” Orgeron said. “He’s a father already, I didn’t go against it.”

Orgeron also made a good point, while having an elite defender like Williams would certainly help LSU in the upcoming game, if he — or any player for that matter — isn’t willing to give their all for the team during the preparation and/or the game, the team is most likely better off without them.

“It has to be in your heart, you have to want to be here. If you don’t want to be here, I really don’t want you to be around,” Orgeron added. “If a guy is done, I like him to tell me and I’ll honor that. I’m not mad at him, do I agree with it, not necessarily.”

Williams currently projects as one of the top cornerbacks in the 2019 NFL Draft. He will leave school having only played two seasons in Baton Rouge as he’s currently a redshirt sophomore.

What is interesting for LSU is the fact Devin White, considered by many to be the top linebacker prospect in for the 2019 NFL Draft, has announced he will play for LSU in the bowl game. White has yet to announce whether he plans to return to Baton Rouge in 2019 but most expect he will leave school early.

In fact, some speculated that he won’t even play in the Fiesta Bowl.

White has already announced he will play, something that Orgeron very much appreciates.

“He could have opted to not play,” Orgeron said on Tuesday. “He has not told me if he’s declaring (for the NFL). He has done what he should do and finish with his team.”

Where do you stand on the issue of players with potential NFL dollars on the line skipping their bowl games?
