The big story coming into LSU’s home game against Mississippi State was the team’s unique alternate jerseys. The story of the game was the way Dave Aranda’s defense played in them.

In an incredible display of effort, LSU held Mississippi State to only three points Saturday night in Baton Rouge. The Tigers forced more turnovers than that in this game (4) as Nick Fitzgerald was one interception short of a handful in this contest. Joe Moorhead’s offense will once again come away searching for answers after racking up only 260 offensive yards in this one.

Immediately following the game, Ed Orgeron praised the production of his offense going up against Mississippi State’s defense. Heading into the game, the Bulldogs led the nation in scoring defense. A big part of that production came from the pass rush, which LSU limited due to the offensive gameplan.

“We just had to block their front, get rid of the ball quick, catch the football and move down the field,” Orgeron said. “We went to an outside zone scheme. Great job by our offensive coordinator, Steve Ensminger. Big win for our team.”

The real bell cow of this game for the Tigers was Aranda’s unit, something Coach O noted.

“Proud of our guys. Nick Fitzgerald is one of the best players I’ve seen in college football. They have a great scheme. Kudos to our defensive staff and our defense for holding them to three points,” he said.

Now LSU will head into a bye week before returning home to face Alabama. Of course, Orgeron was asked about the upcoming home game and being ready for the No. 1 team in the nation.

“Yeah, we will (be ready) but we are going to enough tonight,” Orgeron answered. “Go Tigas!”

LSU improves to 7-1 on the season and will host 8-0 Alabama on Nov. 3.
