Tennessee coach Butch Jones was the first SEC coach to make the trip up to ESPN headquarters Monday for his carwash visit, and now Ed Orgeron has become the second coach to make the trip up to Connecticut this summer. While the event is primarily a showcase/promotional tool for the upcoming season for each coach, Coach O did reveal some information during his first stop in Bristol.

The LSU coach’s morning began with a visit to the Mike & Mike studio. It was there that Orgeron was asked about the status of his returning quarterback Danny Etling. Etling’s performance in the spring game left much to be desired, and it was revealed soon after the performance that the senior needed to undergo surgery.

“He’s healthy. We can’t see him throw in the summer, but he says he’s about 90 percent,” Orgeron said on the show.

Coach O’s next stop came on the set of SportsCenter, where the anchors gave him a hard time about his massive intake of energy drinks. Although, according to Orgeron, he’s since curbed his intake since the last time his consumption of the drinks made headlines.

Here’s what Coach O said when asked if he still partakes in consuming large quantities of energy drinks.

“Once in awhile if I need it,” Orgeron said. “My consultant has curtailed my drinking (of energy drinks).”

The LSU coach was then asked to discuss taking over the program in Baton Rouge. What had he learned since failing at Ole Miss?

“I treat all my players exactly like I’d treat my sons. It’s about them, it’s not about me,” Orgeron said in regards to his relationships with the players. As for his coaching style, Orgeron has changed his philosophy in that regard as well.

“Letting the coaches coach. We brought in Matt Canada (former offensive coordinator at Pitt), going to let him run his offense,” Orgeron said. “I think we have the best defensive coordinator in football in Dave Aranda. On special teams, we are changing everything. We will be more exciting.”

Coach O also discussed the high expectations on the bayou and doing what’s necessary to deliver success to the fans of the program.

“I love it. Love every minute of it,” Orgeron continued. “I put the pressure on myself. Wake up every morning giving it everything I’ve got.”
