The LSU Tigers had a season for the ages in 2019, going 15-0 and winning the national championship in dominant fashion.

However, they’ll have to pretty much completely rebuild heading into the 2020 season, as many of the stars from last year’s squad have either gone on to the NFL or opted out of this campaign.

On Monday, ESPN’s Jesse Palmer explained why he thinks new LSU QB Myles Brennan is now under a great deal of pressure this fall (via 247Sports):

“How would you like to be Myles Brennan?” Palmer said Monday on ESPN’s College Football Countdown. “And you’re taking over for Joe Burrow. You just showed all those numbers: the Heisman winner, the first pick in the draft, arguably the greatest season we’ve seen a quarterback have.

“And the best receiver in the country, Ja’Marr Chase, he’s opted out. Joe Brady, the passing game coordinator, he’s now calling plays for the Carolina Panthers. And you’re playing at a place where you’re expected to beat Bama, win the SEC and reach the College Football Playoff.

“Myles Brennan has tremendous, tremendous pressure on him. I remember when I got to Florida right after Danny Wuerffel won the Heisman, everyone said, ‘You don’t gotta be Danny Wuerffel. You just gotta be Jesse Palmer you’ll be great.’ Well, that sounds good until you throw your first pick. And then you’re gonna hear from everybody on campus, you’re gonna hear from the media, you’re gonna hear it from your great aunt Ella, who runs Commander’s Palace in NOLA. Myles Brennan (is) under tremendous pressure at LSU.”

How will LSU fare in 2020? That will indeed largely depend on Myles Brennan’s play at quarterback. He does have one key playmaker returning alongside him in WR Terrace Marshall Jr.
