LSU closed out the regular season with its sixth win in seven games by beating Texas A&M by a score of 45-21 thanks to monster performances from quarterback Danny Etling and running back Derrius Guice. The Tiger finish Ed Orgeron’s first season as full-time head coach with a 9-3 record and should be in line to make an upper echelon bowl game thanks to the hot finish to the season and the team’s national ranking.

After the game, Coach O was interviewed about his team’s latest performance.

Q: What did you learn about yourself as a head coach this season?

“How to fight through adversity, how to get the team to play together. Being 3-2 was a tough time, the leadership, the staff stayed together. I’m proud of this football team.”

Q: What do the departing seniors mean to this football program?

“They went through a lot of transition. They mean a lot to me, they mean a lot to their teammates who wanted to win this game for them. Six of them have graduated, most of them are close to graduating. Just so proud of them.”

Q: How does it feel closing out the season with a win, knowing you will be LSU’s coach moving forward?

“I’m excited for the Tigers, I’m happy for our players, this was never going to be about me. I’m just happy for everybody and I want this guy (Derrius Guice) to come back with me for one more year!”

Q: What’s next for LSU football?

“We are just going to wait, go on the road recruiting, see what happens, hopefully go to a great bowl. These guys deserve a great victory in the next bowl.”
