Many in the NFL media took notice when New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. did not show up for organized team activities (OTAs). While Beckham’s absence has led to some criticism, he has one Giants great vouching for him, Hall of Famer Michael Strahan.

“He busts his ass,” Strahan told ESPN.com’s Jordan Ranaan from a charity golf event. “I’ve seen this kid work. I’ve talked to him this offseason. His head is where it needs to be. Everybody gives him a hard time about missing a little OTAs. Hell, I didn’t go to those things, so I’m the wrong person to be sympathetic for people who are giving him a hard time.”

Even more important, Beckham appears to have the full support of his coach, John Mara, who recently said he’d like to have a dozen Beckhams on his team. With Strahan and Mara on his side, it would appear Beckham has little to worry about this offseason.

When Beckham returned to the Giants for minicamp, which is mandatory, he pushed back against the notion that his OTAs absences were contract-related.

“I was just out in [Los Angeles] training,” Beckham said on June 13. “I’ve seen a holdout and stuff, and I’ve never really seen it work, so that was never in my mind, that I’m not going to go to OTAs to get a new contract. I don’t think that really proves a point, in my opinion.”
