LSU fans can expect to see increased law enforcement and security at the Tigers’ remaining home games, according to a report from Lea Skene of The Advocate.

Underage drinking will be particularly targeted, the report stated, after recent incidents involving alcohol on campus, including the death of fraternity pledge Maxwell Gruver last week.

East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore III reportedly sent an email to high school administrators on Tuesday about the plans for additional security.

The email referenced the recent arrest of the man with a cast on his arm who was captured on video assaulting another tailgater.

“Although the recent publicized arrest did not involve an area high school student, the police advise that possession of alcohol and intoxication of high school students on campus is an increasing issue,” Moore wrote in the email. “All of the law enforcement agencies that provide security to LSU on LSU game days will increase their presence and will not tolerate any such activities.”

Gruver’s death has “added to the heightened need” for security, the email said. Autopsy results revealed that Gruver had a high blood alcohol content.

“(We) hate to see young kids screw up their education and have a record,” Hillar said. “Neither LSU nor any other law enforcement agency working the LSU games wants to arrest, issue summonses or take any legal action against these students.

“We hope that by all of us working together (administrators, parents, students) we can avoid law enforcement involvement with our youth on the LSU campus.”
