Jayden Daniels is settling into the transition of facing SEC defenses, and at LSU, that includes some ferocious defensive linemen.

Daniels, who has been clocked at 21 mph, on facing SEC defensive linemen: “I just know I don’t want to get caught.” Daniels, the Arizona State transfer, admitted that he can notice the difference of SEC football in the talent in the trenches at LSU practices. It doesn’t factor into him running, but he’s not taking any chances.

Daniels also noted another difference once he arrived in the South: “Louisiana breeds receivers.”

One day after Myles Brennan stepped away from football, Daniels told reporters that he has not been named the starter yet.

“No matter where you go, it’s always betting on yourself,” he said. “I know what I present to the table, and at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who they start, it’s a great quarterback room. It’s one of the top quarterback rooms in the country, so we’ve got talented guys all around. So I want to help prepare them, help them prepare me because at the end of the day, whoever they call to be the starter, that’s going to be the starter.”

Daniels said he’s spent the offseason trying to build relationships, so, “They could trust me, I could trust them. Just building that family bond.”
