Lou Holtz led Notre Dame to the national title in 1988 and remains a legend in South Bend.

But, during Brian Kelly’s tenure with the Fighting Irish, it’s clear Holtz felt left out of the mix around the football facilities.

Speaking recently, Holtz revealed he wrote several letters to Kelly, but never received a reply from the head coach:

“I wrote Brian Kelly maybe 8 positive letters during his time at Notre Dame, and I go to the mailbox everyday hoping I’m going to find an answer. He never responded to one of them,” Holtz said. “But that’s his choice. I answered every letter that came in to Notre Dame. … But, Brian Kelly didn’t believe in that. I’m sure he’ll be very successful at LSU. He has been everywhere. But he’s going to find out he’s not going to be playing Toledo. He’s not going to be playing Marshall. This conference is going to be different.”

It hasn’t been a very good week for Kelly’s reputation at Notre Dame. Boston College QB Phil Jurkovec, who started his career at Notre Dame, called out Kelly for lying to his parents recently. We’ll see if Kelly has anything to say in the coming days about either of these stories.
