LSU has announced a new member of its No. 7 club for the 2024 season.

That honor belongs to star linebacker Harold Perkins, who is entering his 3rd season with the program. LSU made that announcement late Thursday evening:

Offensive tackle Will Campbell, who received the No. 7 jersey last season, is also retaining the honor for the 2024 campaign.

At LSU, the honor of the No. 7 jersey goes to players who are from Louisiana and “elevate” the play of their teammates.

“(This number) is about somebody that brings an incredible ability, is from the state and calls the Louisiana his home,” Kelly told the team, per a press release. “This number is about a player that brings up others around him. You can’t just be a great player, if it’s just about him, the number 7 jersey doesn’t work. You have to bring others up around him and that’s what these two do. They elevate the play of those around him.”

LSU also announced that Greg Penn and Josh Williams have been honored with the No. 18 jersey this season.

The No. 7 jersey tradition started at LSU in 2008. It has included numerous great players, including Ja’Marr Chase, Grant Delpit, Leonard Fournette, Tyrann Mathieu and Patrick Peterson, amongst others.

LSU will open its 2024 season on Monday, Sept. 1 against USC in Las Vegas.
