LSU baseball entered the weekend looking strong and ready for a key showdown vs. No. 11 Tennessee. So far, the top-ranked Tigers have been up to the task with back-to-back wins over the Vols.

After a 5-2 win to open the series Thursday, LSU came right back with a tough 6-4 win Friday night. The key blows for the Tigers came in the 4th inning of this one.

Trailing 4-3 heading into the bottom of the 4th, it was the bats of catcher Brady Neal and second baseman Gavin Dugas that put LSU up for good. Neal and Dugas delivered back-to-back solo home runs to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead.

From there, it was all up to LSU’s pitching to shut things down the rest of the way. Ty Floyd earned the win after going 5 innings with 4 runs allowed. Chase Shores and Griffin Herring did the rest of the work for the Tigers out of the bullpen.

Tennessee would get the tying run to the plate in the top of the 9th inning but Henning ended the game with a strikeout.

LSU now has a chance to go for the sweep of the Vols Saturday afternoon. That game is set for a 2 pm ET first pitch.
