LSU baseball will be without one of its top relievers for the remainder of the season, according to a report.

Per Nola.com’s Leah Vann, reliever Garrett Edwards is out for the year due to a torn ulnar collateral ligament. Per Vann’s report, Edwards had Tommy John surgery last week.

Edwards was excellent for the Tigers this season. He posted a 1.93 ERA in 23.1 innings pitched. That’s the lowest ERA of any LSU pitcher so far this season. He hadn’t pitched in a game for LSU since April 7.

He also struck out 27 batters during his 10 appearances. He has 1 save on the year and has held opposing batters to just a .184 average.

LSU is 36-8 overall this season and is 15-5 in conference play. That’s the top record in the SEC West and just a half game behind Vanderbilt (16-5) for the overall conference lead.

The Tigers are ranked No. 1 in the country and are coming off of a sweep of Alabama last weekend. They will face Auburn in a 3-game road series this weekend.

The SEC Tournament is set to begin on May 23.
