LSU defensive line coach Pete Jenkins says he will return for the 2017 season and possibly beyond, according to The Advocate.

Jenkins, who is 75 years old, was pulled out of retirement earlier this year when Ed Orgeron was named interim coach. Players have talked wildly about his style of instruction and teaching.

“He’s been doing it for years and years,” defensive end Lewis Neal said. “He’s taught me technique, made me better. He’s got me all of the tools I need for now and for the next level too.”

Jenkins, a longtime college football d-line coach, has been a close personal friend and mentor to Orgeron for many years.

He has coached 17 players who have earned All-SEC honors during his career and 29 of his former players have advanced into professional football. While at LSU, Jenkins has coached some of the finest defensive linemen in Tiger history, including Leonard Marshall, Roland Barbay and Henry Thomas.

LSU finished 6th nationally in scoring defense (15.8 points per game) this season, ranking 13th against the run (117.25 yards) and 26th in sacks (36).
