The coaches liked LSU’s win 21-19 win at Mississippi State enough to move the Tigers up one spot to No. 14 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, but not as much as they liked Ole Miss’ 73-point performance to beat Fresno State. The Tigers come in at No. 14, looking up at No. 2 Alabama and No. 11 Ole Miss, who will play each other next week. LSU can boost its resume with a win next week against No. 15 Auburn.

The writers rewarded LSU for a top-25 win on the road, moving the Tigers up one spot from No. 14 to No. 13 after they defeated then-No. 25 Mississippi State 21-19.

A top-10 ranking is likely on the line in next week’s Tiger Bowl when LSU hosts No. 15/18 Auburn. LSU ran the ball 47 times Saturday night against Mississippi State to edge the Bulldogs 21-19. Auburn currently ranks No. 97 in rush defense, allowing an average of 199.5 yards per game on 4.2 yards per carry.

By rankings, LSU could move into second place in the SEC West and third overall in the conference.

After playing Auburn, LSU will travel to Syracuse the following week in the first of five games against likely unranked opponents. The Tigers won’t face another SEC West opponent until they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to face Alabama on Nov. 7.
