LSU has had quite the slew of departures since the national championship, but the Tigers added one more on Wednesday evening when LB Jacob Phillips announced his plans for the 2020 season.

Phillips posted to Instagram that his teammates and coaches at LSU for “pouring into me and molding me to become the man and player I am today” before he declared for the NFL Draft and said he would skip his senior season.

The junior led the Tigers in tackles with 113, and had eight tackles in each of the College Football Playoff wins over Oklahoma and Clemson. He had four games of double-digit tackles in the 2019 season.

The Nashville, Tennessee native has been a force for a while, as he made 11 starts in 2018, and played in 24 games combined as a freshman and sophomore.

“The past three years have been a dream come true,” Phillips wrote in his departure message. “I am and will forever be a champion. … Me and my teammates will be Champions Forever.”

Phillips coming out of high school was the No. 1-ranked inside linebacker in the country and No. 61 college football prospect overall, according to the 247Sports Composite. He originally committed to Oklahoma before he changed his mind to LSU.
