LSU Tigers senior QB Joe Burrow tied a school-record with five touchdown passes in the season-opener vs. Georgia Southern. Burrow accomplished the feat in the first half alone as LSU raced out to a 42-3 halftime lead.

Completing 20-24 passes, Burrow threw for 253 yards in a near flawless first half.

The only other LSU QB to toss five touchdown passes in one game, Zach Mettenberger did so vs. UAB in 2013. Seven other Tigers quarterbacks, including Matt Flynn and Matt Mauck, have thrown four touchdown passes in a single game.

A graduate transfer from Ohio State, 2019 is Burrow’s second season as the starter in Baton Rouge. Guiding the Tigers to a 10-3 record a year ago, he completed 57.8% (219-379) of his pass attempts for 2,894 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions.

While Saturday was obviously a special night for Burrow, September 7 will present a much larger challenge. LSU travels to Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium to face the No. 10 Texas Longhorns.
