LSU interim head coach Ed Orgeron addressed multiple topics during the weekly teleconference early Wednesday afternoon.

The health of star running back Leonard Fournette was the most pressing item on the proverbial agenda. Fournette hasn’t played since the Auburn game — still batting an ankle injury.

After sitting out the Mizzou game, and last week during the cancelation of the Florida, there was a thought he’d be able to come back and play. However, this doesn’t appear to be the case:

With Southern Miss headed to town, conventional wisdom suggests Fournette sitting out against what appears to be a tasty cupcake opponent. He’d then (in theory) be ready for the remainder of conference play.

Orgeron also proudly spoke about Fournette’s character as a teammate — as well as his recruitment process:

“He’s from Louisiana, won a tremendous recruiting battle. Came here as a freshman and played well. Gave one of the best individual performances I’ve ever seen here. We tried to give him the MVP award after Auburn last year, but he wouldn’t take it. Gave it to his offensive line and his fullback.”

Backup running back Derrius Guice will again assume the role as the starter in Fournette’s absence. On the year, he’s leading the Tigers in rushing — accruing an eye-popping 8.7 yards-per-carry average.
