Ed Orgeron didn’t officially announce LSU’s starting quarterback on Monday, but he confirmed that a decision had been made.

That decision was to start Joe Burrow.

According to Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated, Orgeron was meeting with the team on Monday afternoon to inform the Tigers’ players that Burrow will be the starting quarterback. Dellenger reports that Burrow’s experience and decision-making led to him winning the competition over Myles Brennan.

However, Dellenger reports that Brennan will play, but he could redshirt if he doesn’t appear in more than four games.

Burrow transferred from Ohio State earlier this year after getting limited playing time with the Buckeyes over the past two seasons. He played in 10 games, passing for 287 yards and two touchdowns.

Dellenger also reported that the competition between Burrow and Brennan was close, reiterating what Orgeron said earlier in the day when he said both quarterbacks had strong grades during fall camp and that he’d be happy with either one leading his team.

LSU opens the season against Miami at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET. It will be Burrow’s first career start, and he’ll certainly be facing a formidable opponent.
