After beating Mississippi State 19-3, LSU advanced to 7-1 on the season and appears poised to move up to No. 4 in the polls. But one call the refs made put a damper on celebrating the win.

LSU LB Devin White, recognized as one of the top defensive players in the country, was flagged for targeting for a hit on Bulldogs QB Nick Fitzgerald. The hit came in the second half of the game, meaning that White must miss the first half of LSU’s next game, which is in Week 10 against Alabama.

The controversial call had LSU fans fuming and sparked many social media debates. Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger is reporting that LSU AD Joe Alleva has contacted the SEC league office to voice his displeasure and “fight” the ruling.

While Tigers fans will appreciate Alleva trying to change the ruling, Dellenger reports that there is no appeal process with the conference when it comes to targeting calls. Alleva’s efforts may lead to policy and protocol changes in the future, but it would appear doubtful he can do anything to change White’s status for the first half of the Alabama game. We shall see.
