LSU’s game at Tennessee on Saturday may have gotten a little more difficult because of the expected absence of two key players on defense.

Pass rusher Arden Key and linebacker Donnie Alexander, who are both injured, did not make the trip to Knoxville, The Advocate reported. That means that freshmen Tyler Taylor, for Alexander, and K’Lavon Chaisson, for Key, are now expected to start.

Key and Alexander were each injured in last week’s win over Arkansas.

Key injured his knee late in the first quarter; he played the next two quarters before leaving early in the fourth quarter. Alexander injured his shoulder or neck in the first half but finished the game. Neither player was spotted at practice early in the week.

Key has four sacks and 33 tackles this season. Alexander is fourth on the team with 49 tackles, but he’s missed significant time with a reported neck injury and a suspension for targeting.
