LSU may have already announced the hiring of Athletic Director Scott Woodward last week but the school waited until Tuesday to hold a press conference to introduce the new leader of the school’s athletics departments.

The Baton Rouge native expressed his love for all things LSU and the desire to return home in order to bring championships to the school during his introductory press conference. Following his opening statement, Woodward fielded questions from the assembled media and it didn’t take long before Woodward was asked to share his thoughts on Will Wade and the uncertainty around the men’s basketball program in Baton Rouge.

According to Woodward, he’s not fully aware of all the details, but at this time, Wade has his full support.

“I know less than you do. I need to be briefed and I need to find out what’s going on,” Woodward replied. “Coach Wade is LSU’s coach and he will have my 100 percent support.”

That’s a fairly definitive statement from Woodward but he wisely noted that he doesn’t have all the information on Wade and the basketball program at this time. In one sentence, LSU’s new AD let Wade know he has his back but at the same time, if something new pops up, Woodward likely won’t hesitate to make a necessary move to help the program.

Considering his track record of making hires, while Wade may be a great coach, there’s little doubt Woodward is capable of landing a fantastic hire to come to Baton Rouge if need be.
