LSU surprised some people when they came in at No. 25 in the preseason AP poll.

Tom Luginbill was one of those who was a little shocked to see the Tigers ranked so highly, and he explained why on Monday.

“I know that we become conditioned to think ‘ok wow, LSU is really talented, they’ve got athletes across the board.’ Yes they do, but they’ve also got real questions marks,” said Luginbill. “They’ve got question marks in their offensive and defensive fronts, which can be a real problem in this league, and I think they’ve got some questions about what they are going to be on offense. (You) got to come up with a go-to playmaker, that might end up being a true freshman in Terrace Marshall.”

Even though coach Ed Orgeron hasn’t decided on a starting quarterback yet, Luginbill doesn’t seem concerned about it, and thinks that either guy could get the job done.

“The quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Myles Brennan, I don’t think is actually a problem,” Luginbill said. “I think one of those two guys, if not a combination of both, will be just fine. The comfort level with Steve Ensminger and Ed Orgeron is an entirely different dynamic than it was with Matt Canada. I think that the Matt Canada offense, what he was hired to do, was way above the head of everybody else there, and that includes maybe Orgeron saying ‘hey listen, this isn’t quite what I want to be.'”

For LSU however, the question still remains: Do you let the offensive coordinator coach the offense?
