Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s fantastic play in place of the injured Tony Romo has ignited a quarterback controversy few expected entering the season.

Romo is on the mend from a fractured vertebra, but one Hall of Fame signal-caller thinks the Cowboys should roll with the rookie Prescott until his production begins to dip.

“You have to look at the dynamics right now,” Brett Favre said on Sirius XM on Tuesday. “And (the Cowboys) really are hitting on all cylinders. So this is hypothetically thinking, if you are Tony you say, ‘You know what, as much as I want to play, I don’t want to press the issue. I want to play, but I’m going to let it play out right now. It is probably better if Dak starts struggling and then they bring me in rather than they put me in and then all of a sudden we’re not hitting on all cylinders.'”

Favre praised Prescott for his pocket presence, athleticism composure and accuracy. The ex-Mississippi State quarterback has led Dallas to an NFC East-leading 4-1 record, completing 69 percent of his passes for 1,239 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing for another three scores.
