Mississippi State was riding high after a 3-0 start to the season but reality has set in a bit with consecutive SEC losses at Georgia and Auburn the last two weeks. The Bulldogs now get a chance to rest up during the bye week before hosting BYU in Starkville next weekend.

During his appearance on the SEC’s weekly Coaches Teleconference, Dan Mullen gave his assessment on his team heading into the bye.

Here’s a summary of what the Mississippi State coach had to say on the call:

  • “We had a good couple days of practice. Fall break matched up with our bye, so it’s great for guys to get a chance to go home.”
  • Three games that have been so lopsided, has that surprised you? “Not really. I’ve been around so long, nothing really surprises me. That stuff doesn’t really surprise me anymore.
  • Any issues with imbalance in the SEC? “I don’t know about that. I don’t know, I think it’s always an up and down cycle.”
  • Who is better, Auburn or Georgia? “Hard to say, they are very different. Both are excellent football teams that are very different.”
  • What area would you like to improve heading into BYU? “Consistency. We need young guys to get extra reps, we need older guys to get healthy but the reps will be important for our young guys.”
