Thanks to Dak Prescott’s fantastic college career, which was followed by a sensational start to his young NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys, Mississippi State and head coach Dan Mullen have a ton of cachet with quarterbacks on the recruiting trail. When you add the fact Mullen has coached two other Heisman-quality quarterbacks during their college careers (Tim Tebow won a Heisman in 2007, Alex Smith finished fourth in 2004) in addition to grooming Nick Fitzgerald to a terrific start in his first year as MSU’s starting quarterback last season, it appears the MSU coach can do no wrong at the position.

After landing 2017 4-star quarterback prospect Keytaon Thompson — the nation’s No. 5 dual-threat quarterback prospect in his class — during the last recruiting cycle, Mississippi State is staying hot on the recruiting trail when it comes to quarterbacks as the Bulldogs landed a commitment from 2018 4-star Jalen Mayden Tuesday evening:

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Mayden ranks as the nation’s No. 12 dual-threat quarterback prospect and the No. 34 overall prospect from Texas according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. He chose to commit to Mississippi State over offers from Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State, Baylor, Louisville, and Nebraska among several others.

During the last two seasons, Mayden has passed for over for 5,336 yards and 59 touchdowns while adding 1,145 rushing yards and 15 rushing scores. Mayden has also been selected as one of the nation’s Elite 11 Finals participants.

Following Mayden’s commitment, Mississippi State now has nine total commitments lined up in the 2018 recruiting cycle. With an elite quarterback now on board, it will be interesting to see how much momentum the Bulldogs will gain on the recruiting trail moving forward.
