During preparations for the 2019 NFL Draft, Mississippi State DL Jeffery Simmons tore his ACL.

The Tennessee Titans still used a first-round pick on him, and that is starting to pay off. Simmons is already back from his injury, playing 21 snaps in a win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

His debut was a good one, too, as he had 4 tackles and a sack, which you can see in the highlights below:

Simmons broke down his performance, including areas he can improve, in the video below:

“Overall, I’m just excited we got this win,” he said. “It was good to get the sack. It was greater to get the win.”

Simmons’ coach, Mike Vrabel, was also happy to see the first-round pick out there (via TitansOnline.com):

“(He said) Coach, I’m ready, and I am confident in being able to go and play in the game,” Vrabel said of Simmons. “It was up to him. It was, ‘Jeff, you just have to tell me – you are cleared medically, and you have to tell us that you have the confidence to go out and play.’ … I am not going to sit here and say, ‘Hey, we’re 2 and 4 and you’re playing.’ I would never do that, I would never want anyone to do that to my son. And he came in, and it was a cool thing, he was emotional to be able to recognize that dream and play in the National Football League.”

Vrabel also said he thinks Simmons’ usage will go up as he gets into the swing of things. That will be exciting to see.
