The Mississippi State Bulldogs will enter fall camp with a quarterback competition, involving last year’s backup Keytaon Thompson and Penn State graduate transfer Tommy Stevens.

Nothing has been decided yet, but it’ll be something those around the program keep a close eye on in the coming weeks.

On Tuesday, coach  Joe Moorhead joined “The Jim Rome Show” and discussed what he’s looking for in his quarterbacks:

“With the guys on our roster and the guys we recruit, we say we want a quarterback who can compete with his brain, his arm and his legs,” Moorhead said. “I think the biggest thing outside that is inspiring confidence in your teammates and believe you’re the guy that can get us victories.

“Both guys are equally skilled as runners. If you look at their histories, they’re both around eight yards per carry, so that’s not going to be what separates them. For us, it’s going to be who throws the ball better, who makes the best decisions, who’s the most accurate, who can push the ball down the field and who can minimize turnovers?”

The Bulldogs get fall camp started within the next two weeks, so we’ll see who starts to separate from the other at that time.
