Another new school, same old Mike Leach.

The Mississippi State head coach is known for telling some great tales about his years around college football, and he shared a great one during an appearance on ESPN2 on Wednesday.

This was Leach’s first National Signing Day since joining the Bulldogs, so of course the story he told had to do with recruiting. He shared a tale from “years ago,” in which he scared off a recruit because of a magic trick that he conducted.

Leach said it was a trick that could potentially scare off recruits if they’re afraid of ghosts or superstitious.

“It’s one where you use a telephone,” Leach recalled on the show. “He drops the phone right on the floor, and he sprints right out of the office. He’d go around on the rest of the visit on his tiptoes and he’d taste his food like it might be poisoned. And that’s the last I saw of him, and that magic trick was a big part of that.”

Mississippi State fans will have to hope that Leach now only uses magic tricks that might convince top recruits to join the Bulldogs in the future.
