Nick Fitzgerald has played in 43 games for Mississippi State, but Saturday’s clash against Arkansas will be his last in Davis Wade Stadium.

During a meeting with reporters Tuesday, Fitzgerald was asked about his emotions ahead of his final home game.

“People always say it goes by fast, and no, no it didn’t,” the senior quarterback said with a chuckle. “In a way, I guess so. But, really, I’ve been here for so long. I don’t really think all of it has hit me yet. I’m sure all of it will in the game.”

A full-time starter since his sophomore year, Fitzgerald owns several school and SEC records thanks to his abilities as a dual-threat quarterback. One of his final tests comes against Arkansas defensive coordinator John Chavis, whose Texas A&M units he lit up for 35 points in both 2016 and 2017.

“I think during the time we’ve been watching film the last couple days, I think it’s really a defense that we can attack very well with our offense without having to really put any new plays in or do anything differently,” Fitzgerald said. “They’re very simple with what they do, but throughout the season they’ve gotten better and better. It’s one of those teams where I think their record doesn’t exactly represent how good they are as a team. But I’m going to go out there and execute the plays that they call and hopefully have a big senior day.”

Fitzgerald will be looking to give the Bulldogs faithful one final treat when No. 21 Mississippi State (6-4, 2-4 SEC) hosts the Razorbacks (2-8, 0-6) at noon ET on Saturday.
