Following in Dak Prescott’s footsteps isn’t easy.

It certainly wasn’t easy for Nick Fitzgerald this year at Mississippi State. The Bulldogs, currently sporting a 4-7 record, won’t be heading to a bowl game in 2016.

The redshirt sophomore quarterback told The Clarion-Ledger that he can’t help but feel responsible for the team’s struggles in 2016:

“There were a lot of expectations and the team didn’t do quite as well as they thought it would. That was something that kind of got put on my shoulders and a few other people’s shoulders,” Fitzgerald said. “We kind of had to bear that. I had never been in that situation. So I had to kind of learn how to handle it and go on.”

However, Fitzgerald is excited for a chance to end the season on a positive note with a big Egg Bowl win against rival Ole Miss:

“I’m just excited. It’s a huge game,” Fitzgerald said. “It’s something I haven’t gotten to play in. I’m really looking forward it.”

Fitzgerald and the Bulldogs will travel to Oxford on Saturday afternoon. The Egg Bowl kicks off at 2:30 p.m. Central time and can be seen on the SEC Network.
