Report: Joe Moorhead to hire former Tennessee DC Bob Shoop as Mississippi State's DC
The Mississippi State Bulldogs hired former Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead to replace Dan Mullen, and now Moorhead is busy assembling his staff.
After Todd Grantham decided to join Mullen at Florida, the Bulldogs needed to find a new defensive coordinator, and now they reportedly have.
According to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Moorhead will hire former Tennessee DC Bob Shoop to fill the same position at Mississippi State:
Sources tell Chris Low and me that Mississippi State is hiring Bob Shoop as its defensive coordinator. Shoop spent the past two years at Tennessee after serving as defensive coordinator at Penn State and Vanderbilt. https://t.co/c8e6QzoWRF

Shoop’s defenses at Tennessee the past couple of years haven’t lived up to expectations, but the Vols have been hit hard by injuries on that side of the ball.
Both Moorhead and Shoop have coached at Penn State, though not at the same time, as Shoop was there from 2014 to 2015 and Moorhead was in State College in 2016 and 2017.
However, Moorhead apparently knows enough about Shoop to want him in Starkville, so we’ll see how that duo works together for the Bulldogs in 2018 and beyond.
