Mississippi State LB Willie Gay Jr. had a big game in Week 4 against Kentucky, but it looks like he won’t be able to help the Bulldogs in Week 5 at Auburn.

Ben Portnoy reports that Gay is at Friday night’s Starville High School game. Joe Moorhead’s squad has traveled to Auburn for Saturday’s game. Putting the two together, Gay won’t be playing Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Gay made his 2019 debut against Kentucky in Week 4, recording a pick-six that helped set the tone early for the Bulldogs. Moorhead raved about Gay after the game.

“I think Willie is one of the top linebackers in the conference and in the country,” the second-year coach said in his postgame press conference. “He’s big. He’s fast. He’s strong. He’s athletic. He plays with great passion.”

Moorhead that he wished he had “100 Willies” on his team.

The Clarion-Ledger notes unconfirmed speculation that Gay is one of the “Tutorgate Ten,” meaning he may be suspended for multiple games throughout the 2019 season.
