Mississippi State apparently has a new name in the hat for its next head football coach.

Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead is now in the mix, according to a report from USA TODAY columnist Dan Wolken.

Moorhead served as Fordham’s head coach from 2012 to 2015 before taking over the Penn State OC job in 2016. He compiled a 38-13 head coaching record at Fordham and made the FCS Playoffs three years in a row.

Perhaps that success could translate to the SEC, especially now that he’s got some big-time coordinator experience, as well.

Earlier on Monday, there were reports of State going after other coordinators, such as Alabama’s Jeremy Pruitt and Clemson’s Brent Venables. Both of those guys are defensive coaches, unlike Moorhead.
