The Mississippi State Bulldogs were dealt a tough blow this week when coach Joe Moorhead announced that star QB Nick Fitzgerald was suspended for Week 1 due to a violation of team rules.

That means Keytaon Thompson, who filled in when Fitzgerald was injured in the Egg Bowl and led the Bulldogs to a TaxSlayer Bowl victory over Louisville, will take over against Stephen F. Austin.

Below, new OC Luke Getsy says it will basically be business as usual for Mississippi State, even without Fitzgerald:

“I think Keytaon’s well-prepared,” he said. “He’s had a great offseason. He’s a good fit for what we do offensively, so anything we’d be doing with Nick, we’ll do with KT as well.”

Saturday’s season opener against Stephen F. Austin kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Central time and can be seen on ESPNU.
